One of Alex Ioannou’s best qualities may be his ability to soothe a nervous bride. ‘Brides are often unsure about what they want, but during the consultation I always put them at ease and find the style that works best for them’ says the 20-year veteran stylist.‘Hair should look simple and as elegant as possible. I refuse to put some big stuffed cockatoo accessory in it’ insists Ioannou, who adds that the look he creates must compliment, not overwhelm, what the bride is wearing.

Ioannou’s word is worth its weight in golden locks. In addition to prepping at runway shows for Versace, Chanel, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, he has coiffed for Donna Karan and Lauren Hutton, among others. Julia Roberts, Winona Ryder and Chynna Phillips have all been spotted at his salon. But the modest Ioannou shares the spotlight with his team.

He adds that ‘We all strive to create the look that every bride deserves.’

What’s coming up? Ioannou says bridal looks will be simple and clean this year, incorporating fewer veils and elaborate hair pieces — with the emphasis on natural elegance.
